There is no point to post to social media if my work will only visible to the region where my country belongs.
To me its meaningless to post my work to social media when its only visible to Middle East or Asia... Perhaps I want Europeans and Americans to see my work. How come social media apps / environments has the right to control where I reach? And if its limiting my reach to the rest of the world - to the other side of the world - then what's the point using them?
Between 2004 and 2012 - in my good old days in DeviantArt for example; I was able to show my work to the people (from outside of my country) who genuinely interested in it. There wasn't a strategical follow / unfollow game like we have in Instagram today. It wasn't filled with fake accounts created by the site itself to serve as (fake) followers to make some people look popular like we have on Google Plus, Twitter and Facebook. Today I can't even tell anymore who is real and who is "bot" ... Some bots are even able to write logical comments as I know - and these all seems like a part of a huge social media experiment to me, held by the giants of the field.
I'm personally posting my photography and illustrations to show them to the rest of the world - outside of my country. If my post only reach to my friends and family on social media, then to me its useless and waste of time because I can show my work to them myself in my home or a coffee or in local communities and exhibitions.
The main purpose is fading away... Seems to me its turning into a game and a test area. Testing codes, experimenting on people, making profit out of it somehow and serving less and less to its main purpose (at least to me) which is opening the doors to the world for you... For you to connect with like minded creative people, for you to reach the audience that are genuinely interested in to your work, for you to express yourself freely (they have shadowban for it now) - its getting less "for you" and more for other type of benefits for themselves.
